————— AUDITION NOTICE —————
About the Show: Set in the 1880s at the dawn of the age of electricity, the three-time-Tony-nominated work by Sarah Ruhl depicts the way doctors often treated 'hysterical' patients, centering on how this new therapy affects one doctor's entire household.
Content Note: This production explores strong, often provocative themes, including sexuality, gender roles, child loss, power dynamics, racism and personal autonomy. It also includes staged intimacy. We are committed to ensuring a professional, safe and respectful environment for all performers. These moments will be carefully choreographed, and we will work closely with the cast to ensure open communication, consent and comfort throughout the rehearsal process. Our goal is to create an inclusive and supportive atmosphere where everyone feels respected and empowered to do their best work. Black and African-American performers who are female-identifying are encouraged to audition.
How to Prepare: Please prepare a 1-2-minute monologue from a contemporary play that demonstrates your emotional range and ability to connect with a complex, vulnerable character. While prepared monologues are encouraged, cold readings from the script will also be available for those who prefer to read.
About Auditions: Auditions will take place in the Schulte Room at the Washington Pavilion on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to noon. You will be given a specific arrival time, enter through the Dakota Avenue doors on the west side of the Pavilion and check in with a Monstrous team member in the lobby. Auditions are by appointment only, and walk-ins without advance sign-up are discouraged.
